SocialTV – TV with your Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter friends

For  a few weeks now Splashcast and Hulu have partnered up for a unique service called “Social TV”.  the idea of having “interactive tv” online is nothing new however what is different with this embeddable widget is the fact that you can share it with your friends on Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. In real time you can that chat about the tv show as it is running.

Another interesting feature is the fact that if you are watching “House” like I have taken a screenshot here for this blog post and you place a comment 5 minutes into the show, your comment remains there as part of the show. So in other words you have a permament archived dialogue of the show. It will be interesting to see how quickly this will become abused with profanity and self advertising broadcasts (spammer’s dream). Fi

nally another diferentiator is the fact that you can place a real time poll and have the cability to rate.

According to Mashable Splashcast claims that during the two week test-run, time spent in the apps increased 50%, showing that comments make videos much more engaging.

Personally I have made it a goal to unplug from the tyranny known as “cable programming” by this summer and watch all of my television entertainment via online channels. I love this blog post from Gizmodo listing out all show like an internet TV remote.
